Day 38, August 12 Seward, AK

Today was fishing day in Seward.   We had planned many things, fishing was one of them.   The wives all got up to drive their hubbies to meet the captain of the fishing boat at 5:30 am.   The weather was typical for Seward, rainy, foggy, and just plain nasty.  We checked ourselves in to find out which ship we would go to sea.   We were happy to have drawn the "Minnow" with Gilligan as our first mate.   Here are Don and Ken checking in.

As we set sail on our 3 hour cruise, you can get a glimpse of what we saw.   This would be the brightest the day would be.   That cloud would end up covering the entire bay all day.

Here is a typical picture of our fishing.   Pouring down rain, cold weather, and rough seas...who could ask for anything more!

At the end of the day, many salmon were caught.

One of our crew caught 4.

Some less.

In the end, we made it back to port and have some salmon to eat.   Do not ask us what these few mouthfuls cost, it would be hard for us to swallow.

I would show you more pictures for the rest of the days activities, but you wouldn't be able to see them through the rain.  We had a nice dinner that evening, but felt that we had been through the roaring forties just walking to and from the restaurant.   The campground had produced a small lake outside of the Showers camper.   The ducks that landed there were pleasant to look at.  We had hoped that tomorrow would be better as we had booked a cruise to the glaciers.   Just before going to bed, we get the call that the cruises have all been canceled.  Karen is bummed!

We did manage to get a good meal in Seward.   Oddly enough, halibut and salmon are featured everywhere.
