Day 32, August 6 Rivers Edge RV Park to Savage River Campground in Denali National Park

We finally left the rainy days in Fairbanks for the hopefully sunnier days of Denali.  Our ultimate goal is to see Mt. McKinley.  The drive was only a little more than 100 miles, but it took us over 4 hours to get there.   I took this shot from my rearview mirror to show the back up of campers, trucks, and cars at just one of many road construction areas.

Filled with anticipation, we checked in and headed for our camp site.

After parking our camper we decided to head to the camp store to buy some firewood and other essentials.   Karen fell in love with one hat in particular.

On the way back to the campsite, we got to see several moose, both cows and bulls.  This one was eating in the trees and almost got stuck  in the trees.  Altogether, we saw 5 or 6 of these creatures grazing away, ignoring all the stopped cars and snapping cameras in the process.

Then about 7:30 in the evening, we realized that Mt. McKinley was visible from near our campsite.  This picture does not do it justice, but we were totally awed by its beauty and size.  Many people come to Denali and never find a clear enough day to see the mountain.   We felt privileged.

Question, how many academic types does it take to chop wood for a fire.   Answer:  2 is not enough!
