Day one has FINALLY Arrived

This morning  at7:00 am, July 6, 1914 we finally started out on our Alaskan adventure we started planning 3 years ago.   We would like to say we weren't nervous, but neither of us slept well the night before.

As you can see from this picture, Karen can't wait.  She is yelling something akin to get your posterior into the car and let's go!  Today was going to be one of our longest.   The weather turned out to be somewhat Texas Hot so we decided to push ourselves to New Mexico instead of beautiful Dalhart.  We love to eat our lunches along the way so we stopped at the court house in Memphis to eat under the only trees west of Fort Worth.  With the wind blowing, it was quite nice.

After Memphis, we rolled into Capulin, NM,  where we found a place to park our trailer for the evening at the base of the Capulin Volcano National Monument.   Our friend Peter Lutken told us about it and here we are.  You can see the volcano in the background on the left.   Tomorrow we will explore it before heading on to Ft. Collins, CO.

As you can see we got some hiking in before settling in for a gourmet meal camp side.   Gorgeous scenery and tons and tons of Lava!

Working on the Blog!

Here's the map of the days journey.
