Day 12 July 17 Banff Sunshine Meadows Ski Resort

Whenever we are not moving, John’s little domestic partner kills time knitting.

Our first full day took us to Sunshine Meadows Ski Resort just outside of Banff.   The idea was to ride a gondola up to the top of the meadow and then do a leisurely walk back to the gondola and down.   The “Out of Order” sign said it all.  Instead, we climbed aboard an old school bus that I think I rode in 1952.  It did take us near the top and after a long trek we were in the flowered meadows that were promised.

One of the humiliating aspects of our walk was being constantly passed by a group of walkers belonging to a hiking club from Calgary.   Most of the people were in their 80’s.  Karen and I are hoping that this means we will hike faster in 10 years.

John shared his lunch with one of the locals who had begging down to a fine art.
